When was the last time you saw a British movie at the cinema? We’re terrible at promoting homegrown movies on our shores and so, despite the fact that many of the best films of 2018 are British, it’s exceedingly difficult to see them in cinemas. This week, brilliant religious drama Apostasy is on limited release and Paddy Considine‘s terrific boxing movie Journeyman is hitting DVD/Blu-ray after falling in and out of cinemas like a punch-drunk fighter.
Both of these movies deserved more from our multiplexes and so, in this video, I try to suggest some ways that the UK’s cinema chains can do a better job of making sure that British film still gets its richly deserved time in the spotlight.
