We’re talking Netflix vs. Multiplex on this week’s Popcorn Muncher Podcast, hosted by Patrick Wilson, with Luke Stevenson and Tom Beasley – editor of The Popcorn Muncher.
We review the bizarre comedy-thriller Gringo, which sees David Oyelowo as a middle management stooge caught up in a cartel kidnapping, bizarro Nicolas Cage nightmare Mom and Dad and British wrestling comedy Walk Like a Panther. Our main review, though, is Alex Garland‘s ambitious new sci-fi Annihilation, starring Natalie Portman as a scientist on a potentially suicidal mission to explore an alien threat. It has been released straight to Netflix in the UK, in opposition to its cinema release in the US.
The news section involves a look at the trailers for Avengers: Infinity War and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. We also discuss Danny Boyle‘s potential role at the helm of Bond 25 and Patrick pits Cage against Portman in the quiz.
