Disney has spent big on a risky proposition on this week’s Popcorn Muncher Podcast, hosted by Patrick Wilson, with Luke Stevenson and Tom Beasley – editor of The Popcorn Muncher.
The reviews section starts with iPhone-shot horror movie Unsane, directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring The Crown actor Claire Foy. We also discuss the blockbuster double bill of robot-versus-monster sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising and Ava DuVernay‘s sci-fi novel adaptation A Wrinkle in Time, which made her the first black female director to be handed a budget in excess of $100m. It has been critically savaged, but is that extreme response justified?
In the news, we take a look at the latest goings-on at Marvel, where Captain Marvel has added some old MCU faces to its cast. Meanwhile, over at Fox, their entire X-Men slate has been delayed and shuffled around, which has set alarm bells ringing and The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle has added an array of famous faces to its cast, which is led by Robert Downey Jr. To finish things off, Tom pits the mighty Stevens of Soderbergh and Spielberg against each other in the quiz.
