Paddington 2 was my favourite movie of 2017. When I saw it during the later part of the year, it was a sweet-natured breath of fresh air that proved to be the perfect mixture of adventure, silliness and straightforward charm. The movie is now set to be released on Blu-ray on 12th March, so I decided to dive in for a second viewing. It’s safe to say I wasn’t disappointed.
With Paul King back as director, Paddington 2 features a simple, but effective premise that sees Ben Whishaw‘s bear trying to save the money required to buy his Aunt Lucy a pop-up book. When the book is stolen by Hugh Grant‘s flamboyant actor, Paddington finds himself framed and locked up with crazed chef Brendan Gleeson. It’s safe to say that what follows is joyous brilliance. If you don’t believe me, give the video a watch, as I try to articulate exactly what makes the film so fun.
